Chrome Hearts—the cult Los Angeles brand that fuses a rich Rock ’n’ Roll heritage with meticulous craftsmanship—has officially opened its doors in St Barthélemy.
The idea of bringing this legendary label to the island was imagined by Kristian, the youngest member of the Stark family, who designed the concept of the boutique with remarkable taste. Every detail respects the brand’s singular aesthetic, while adding a refined island sensibility. But how could it be otherwise when one comes from such a talented and daring family?
Here, we look back at the story of the Los Angeles royalty known as the Starks—a name synonymous with creative vision and longevity for more than 30 years.
At its core, Chrome Hearts is a true family saga. The label was created over three decades ago by its visionary founders, Richard and Laurie Lynn Stark, later joined by their children: Jesse Jo, now a successful singer-songwriter; Frankie Belle, a prominent social-media figure; and her twin brother Kristian, who has just completed his very first concept store right here in St Barth.
Born at the end of the 1980s, Chrome Hearts grew from Richard and Laurie Lynn’s early work creating custom leather pieces for punk and rock icons such as Steve Jones of the Sex Pistols, Heart, Lenny Kravitz, and Mötley Crüe. In 1992, the brand received one of fashion’s highest distinctions—the CFDA Award for Accessories Designer of the Year.
Since then, this fiercely independent family business has continued to attract a remarkable roster of admirers and collaborators including Rei Kawakubo, Bella Hadid, Virgil Abloh, and Pat McGrath. With the opening of its St Barth boutique, Chrome Hearts writes a new chapter—one that blends its unmistakable California edge with the island’s luxurious, laid-back atmosphere.
